Alison Lester is our favourite for picture books also, those two books have been so well used I have to re- buy them! They are also the two books I also give as a gift to new mothers.

Thank you for the book inspiration and suggestions. I’ve just started on chapter books with my 4.5 yr old, we’ve read wind and the willows through twice now!

My biggest pain is that there is no library where we live now, and no bookstores. Ordering books online to get shipped to Indonesia is also ridiculously expensive.

So for me I read a lot on kindle now, or scour whatever small swap bookshelves I can find, and for the kids we rely on friends and family coming to visit to bring over a new suitcase of books for us.

We’re heading back to oz for Christmas and I’m so looking forward to grabbing my big copy of snugglepot and cuddlepie and scouring my parents plentiful bookshelves for more to take back with us.

To be without a library is terribly sad Tansie. But with all the difficulties in obtaining books it must make the reading all the more sweeter and precious.

This found me at the perfect time! I’m just coming back to reading as I’m building reading habits for my toddler and we are both loving it. I love glimpses into other moms’ lives and routines and finding little gems I can incorporate into my home.

Lots of great books on your lists! I love Anna Karenina, I need to give War and Peace a try at some point. Wintering is another one that jumped out at me, and I've heard really good things about Demon Copperhead. Right now I'm reading The Translator by Daoud Hari, which is gutting but important. I'm also reading The Irrational Season, which has chapters that go along with the liturgical year and I'm reading each as the season comes. I think I have bookmarks in a few more around the house, haha, which, by the way, are often bills that I find at hand, stick in a book, and forget all about!

Oh how lovely to read a book in tune with the seasons! I too have been known to use random documents as bookmarks... or tiny shreds of scrap paper to mark pages with passages I want to come back to. Whatever does the job! Welcome 🤗

I love this!

So many amazing books mentioned here.

I also have a special pink bookcase (but alas she’s currently away in a storage shed).

Can’t wait to read more x

I’ll have to look into the books you listed that were ones that shifted your perspective/life. We have similar interest and I’m at the beginning stages of wanting to make shifts or at least prepare myself too when we have a better environment to do so. My son will be 2 in this fall and we live in an apartment in a somewhat urban area in the states. Never thought I would be a mom so I sometimes feel like I’m on the fast track to soaking in all the learning I can to give him the life I envision for him. Your way of homeschooling sounds like my dream for him. I’ll be the first in my family to do things differently in all aspects so learning from scratch over here!

It was the same for me Le. When we started down this path I knew no one who wanted what I did. It's great that your little man is young and you've got lots of time ahead of you to build the life you want for your family. Books were everything to me in those early years of dreaming, imagining and visioning. I have so many I can recommend depending on the topics that interest you most x

Thank you! I start with some that stood on to me on your list and go from there. I feel encouraged knowing you started from scratch too. Being a mom forced me to learn to cook, still in the crock pot stages but am exploring more ideas!
