As always, thank you! I’ve popped a few of these gems on our library list straight away.
My 5yo and I are currently reading the Frog and Toad Collection - it’s so sweet!
Recently I read the short story collections of both O.Henry and Shirley Jackson. I really enjoyed the O.Henry collection, whereas the Jackson collection had some stories that were a little too disturbing for me 🫣 However some definitely left me wanting more! 😅
I love the idea of an Austen year followed by a Brontë year too.
Happy reading and here’s to loving local libraries and second hand bookstores too! ❤️
Frog and Toad will always be a favourite with all of us. It's timeless!
Oh I haven't read either of those short story collections, I will have to hunt them down.
Half way through my Austen year and it has been an absolute joy so far. I've really loved having one author to come back to throughout the reading year. I will definitely continue doing this each year from now on.
Thank you for the wonderful post and delicious book reviews! I'll be rummaging our library soon. I love the Frog and Toad tales, though sadly our library only has one book (and it's always out!) My little one and I have been enjoying the Folk of the Faraway Tree, do nostalgic.
Yes ours only has a limited number of them too, hence why I splurged and bought the treasury and I'm so glad I did. Happy to share my reading adventures with you Tegan ☺️
Really enjoyed your post Stephanie, love the sound of those Dinosaur books and so many other lovely book recommendations to dive into! I've really enjoyed reading aloud 'Fantastically Great Women Sports Stars and Their Stories' by Kate Pankhurst, to my 10yo and 7yo every night. I've learnt a lot from it and it has sparked so many interesting discussions between us all about women's rights and just equality in general. Would highly recommend! Xx
I loved reading this roundup of your favorite reads! Very interested to hear how you started your book club. Looking forward to all in store for Mother Reader in 2025!
The Serviceberry has been on my list and now l really want to read it right now! Can’t wait to dive in 🧡 Frog and Toad look like lovely tales too. I’m going to try and find them at the library.
Stephanie, I am excited to hear more about this in-person book club you have begun! And what a lovely list of books you’ve included here; I spied a few in the little people list that I know would be right up my three-year-old’s alley.
This year so far has not allowed for a significant amount of time spent reading (or writing, for that matter), but I recently finished re-reading Jane Eyre after our middle schooler acted in the musical theatre adaptation. And I’m deep in the pages of Catherine Marshall’s novel Christy, which is perhaps one of my all-time favorites.
Oh Jane Eyre. What a special experience to watch your daughter perform this on stage 🥹 After my Austen year I might have to have a Brontë year! Happy reading Jan 🥰
I love Persuasion too. I haven't seen this adaption though. After I finished reading I watched the recent film starring Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot which I adore! Now I need to see your recommendation 😆

I just reread Persuasion last year and I think it may be my favorite Austen! It made me rewatch the amazing adaptation with Ciarin Hinds *swoon*.
I'm going to look for The Children of Cherry Tree Farm, thanks! It sounds delightful.
